The best way to start off in a country, is to have a taste of culture and food. That, I did. For this entry, I'll talk more on the food.
Smelly tofu! I never thought I would ever give it try and I did. The smell isn't very welcoming but it was not THAT bad, just that the after taste lingers on... So, I don't think I'll crave for it.
This is their normal breakfast set meal. It's quite a lot for 1 person to finish! For some reason, a lot of them eats macaroni.
This is dessert, but not the really traditional kind. It's red bean with grass jelly put in a bowl of dry ice .
This is Hong Kong's famous egg pudding. They have the egg white and egg yolk ones. It's obvious which is which, with a cup of ice milk tea. Yummy! I personally prefer the white one.
These two are Japanese dessert that my mum and I had below our apartment. Not bad at all! I think that green tea ice cream and red bean really complement each other well. They are a perfect match in heaven and earth!
This dessert is from a Vietnamese restaurant. It's unique. At first I thought I ordered just a coconut. It is a coconut. It's what's inside that matters, look carefully and you'll realize that it's jelly! It's like coconut agar agar, with nata de coco inside. I think they put gelatine powder into the coconut juice. Yummy!
This bowl of noodles is really special. They should have it in Singapore. Here's how it works. You go into the cafe, look at a list of ingredients and tell the person what you would like to have added into the noodles. Ingredients have different prices and it's denoted by colour. My bowl has chicken wings, beancurd skin and sharkball. Yes, you saw it right. Sharkball, not fishball, that's the one on the spoon. It's like the fuzhou fishball, with meat inside. Yummy!!
Nothing special about this, it's just coke. It's been a long time since I drank coke from this bottle. It's like ancient!
This is porridge and ngau nam tong [cow ligament soup]. To me, the porridge is just soup poured onto the rice. haha. But it's good! The cow soup too. Just that it's a bit fatty and I would advise not to eat that so often, not healthy! But like people say, food that's good is more often than never bad for you. Still, it's yummy!See that cup of tea on the table. Every cafe [char chan teng] will provide a cup of tea. I usually don't touch it. Reason being, I don't really know what i should do with it. I see some drinking it and some washing their utensils in it. So, drink or no dirnk?
This is salted fish with minced meat claypot rice! Freshly made, it's not been prepared beforehand. The rice is cooked in the claypot itself and not a rice cooker. You have to wait for at least 15mins for it to be done. Yummy!
That's dinner for my mum and I. The food is bought from the supermarket below the apartment. Obviously I packed it up to the apartment to eat. In Hong Kong, all their large supermakets have this! Cooked food ready for you to eat on the spot. They have a variety of food. Chinese, Japanese, Western, Italian... Don't look down on them. If you choose the right foods, Yummy!! Look at the amount of rice they give, like it's free.
This is Mister Soffle! Ice cream van!!! No money, never mind. You can pay by Octopus Card, an eqivalent to your ez-link.
This is just some fried dough stick[yau char kuek] and bee hoon that you eat with congee. The really cantonese kind that is thick, sticky and boiled for a long time till you can't see the rice grain. No picture of it because it looked like a bowl of white liqud. haha. Yummy!
This is from New York Fries. Bringing fries up a notch! Cheesy fries with much more. They have 3 kinds. 1. Beef gravy
2. Veggie [sour cream, green onion, tomatoes.]
3. I can't remember but I know there's chilli.
The one I had was veggie. Green onion, YUCKS! my mum cleared it for me. I'm like the only one in the family that dislikes it. What's so nice about green onion?
That's all the food I have! Some has already been eaten when I took a shot. I can't resist but the tuck in when i get the food and by the time I remember to take a shot, some or the whole thing is gone. Wondering why there's not much photos... I always forgot to take. Hehe.
This is a peeler! Cute huh? I shall call it Mr. Potato!I think talking about food is fun! From now on, I'll take a snap of whatever yummy comes my way! Maybe, this may become a food or travelling blog! Lol... Till then...
